Data Privacy & AI Training: How Owly AI Handles Your Data

Overview

At Conjura, we understand that your business data is sensitive and valuable. This document explains exactly how our AI assistant (Owly AI) handles your data and whether it's used for AI training.

The short answer: Your data is NOT used to train AI models.

How Owly AI Works

Owly AI is powered by third-party AI providers accessed through their API services. When you ask Owly a question:

  1. Your query and relevant data are sent to the AI provider in real-time

  2. The AI processes your information to generate an answer

  3. The response is returned to you

  4. Your data is not stored or used for training by the AI provider

Primary Provider: Claude (Anthropic)

Our primary AI provider is Claude, created by Anthropic.

Claude's Data Privacy Commitments:

  • No training on API data: Anthropic does not train Claude on any data submitted through their API

  • Data isolation: Your data is completely separate from other Conjura customers

  • No persistent learning: Claude doesn't "remember" previous conversations or build a knowledge base from your interactions

  • Enterprise-grade privacy: Each API call is independent and your business data remains confidential

Official documentation: Anthropic Commercial Terms

Fallback Provider: ChatGPT (OpenAI)

When Claude's service is unavailable, Owly AI automatically falls back to ChatGPT via OpenAI's API.

OpenAI's Data Privacy Commitments:

  • No training on API data by default: OpenAI does not use data submitted via their API to train their models unless you explicitly opt in

  • 30-day retention: API data is retained for 30 days for abuse monitoring, then deleted

  • Not used for service improvements: Your data won't be used to improve OpenAI's models or services

  • Enterprise API protections: Same privacy standards apply during our fallback usage

Official documentation: OpenAI API Data Usage Policies

What Data Does Owly AI Access?

When you interact with Owly AI, it only accesses:

  • The specific data needed to answer your question (e.g., sales figures, product information, inventory levels)

  • Your conversation history within the current session

  • Context from your Conjura account necessary for accurate responses

Data Security

  • All data transmitted to AI providers is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS)

  • We only send the minimum data necessary to answer your questions

  • No raw sensitive data (like customer payment details) is ever sent to AI providers

  • All interactions follow our standard data security and privacy policies

Key Differences from Consumer AI Services

This is different from using consumer versions of ChatGPT or other AI chatbots directly:

Consumer AI (e.g., ChatGPT web interface)

Owly AI (API-based)

May use conversations for training*

Never uses your data for training

Conversations may inform future responses

Each interaction is independent

Shared learning across all users

Your data stays isolated

Opt-out required for privacy

Privacy by default

*Note: Consumer AI services have improved their privacy practices, but API usage provides stronger guarantees by default.
